Do You Know What You're Breathing
On September 30th, OSHA released a report based on studies done by the chemists at the Oregon Occupation, Health, and Safety Administration about significant levels of formalin, a cosmetic grade formaldehyde, in keratin straightening treatments such as Brazilian Blowout. While these companies contend that their product is formaldehyde free, this is not necessarily true. When this liquid is heated with a 450Ú iron it can turn into various aldehyde gases which are unsafe to breathe.
At Sudz Salon, we care about the safety of both our clients and staff. Therefore we have done our homework. We have found the service can be performed safely, as per OSHA standards (0.2ppm), if proper measures are taken concerning ventilation.
Sudz Salon has implemented a chemical source capture system, the Aerovex Systems room air purifiers, and new carbon filters to our heating/air conditioning systems. With the addition of these systems, the vapors are captured before being emitted into the air allowing us the ability to safely perform Keratin straightening treatments.
